The Olimpic Sails for the J80 class are the result of a collaboration between the Trieste sailmaker and the Spanish lofts.
The J80 is very common in Spain and the teams are highly competitive. The feedback supplied by our technicians and the speed tests have enabled us to make rapid progress, achieving an excellent level of performance in a very short time.
First developed as a full cross-cut, it then evolved into the current model with the radial head and base in balanced square Dacron. This offers optimal control of the form and at the same time enables the use of a lighter material. The sail’s final weight is the lightest allowed for in the class rules.
This is designed to be an all-round sail and is made using the new Macros by Olimpic Sails technology.
Black Kevlar has been chosen for this to give it a longer life.
The dimensions are designed to exploit the maximum surface allowed by the class rules. The unusually high volume in the upper part enables the head to turn upwind and to bear up while maintaining a good turn of speed.
